Actress Melissa Hancock charged with DUI death of Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Dill

Melissa Hancock charged by Virginia State Police with DWI felony for killing CG Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Dill on Nov 4, 2017

From New York Post

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Authorities say a reality TV star killed a U.S. Coast Guard technician in a drunken wrong-way collision on a Virginia highway.

News outlets report that 25-year-old Melissa Hancock has been charged with driving while intoxicated and maiming following the death of 29-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel Dill.

Hancock appeared on Lifetime’s “Little Women: Atlanta,” a reality show that focuses on women of short stature.

CG Petty Officer Daniel Dill killed by DUI driver Melissa Hancock on Nov 4, 2017

Dill was a Logan Township, New Jersey, native who was stationed in Portsmouth as an information systems technician.

Virginia State Police say Hancock struck Dill head-on around 2 a.m. Nov. 4 on Interstate 264. WCAU-TV reports that Dill was driving to pick up his wife, who’d been drinking. He died of his injuries the next day.

Daniel Dill was his wife’s designated driver and was on the way to pick her up from a night out with her friends.

From Virginian Pilot

VIRGINIA BEACH — Natalie Dill planned to celebrate her 27th birthday by going out to dinner with her husband and family and then heading to the Oceanfront with friends.

Her husband, Daniel Dill, didn’t drink. He told her to go have a good time and offered to pick the group up later so they didn’t have to worry about driving home.

Dill was on his way to pick up his wife and her friends about 2 a.m. Saturday when he crossed paths with a drunken driver going the wrong way on Interstate 264, according to court documents.

A woman driving a 2011 Cadillac struck his 2009 Mazda head-on in the eastbound lane, just west of the Birdneck Road exit, according to a police summary of the incident.

Dill died just after midnight Sunday at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. The 29-year-old had suffered a major spinal cord injury, his brain was severely swollen, and he had internal injuries and broken bones, according to his family. They made the decision to withdraw care once doctors explained his prognosis.

The Cadillac’s driver, Melissa Ann Hancock, was charged with DUI maiming immediately after the crash, but that charge may be upgraded, said Macie Allen, a spokeswoman for the commonwealth’s attorney.

Hancock, 25, who has been featured on the reality TV show ”Little Women: Atlanta,” told a state police trooper she had two to four mixed drinks at Peabody’s Nightclub at the Oceanfront about an hour before the crash, the police summary said. Her blood alcohol content tested at 0.112 two hours later, the summary said. Hancock is 4 feet tall and weighs 77 pounds, according to a court summons.

Hancock was granted a $15,000 bond during a court hearing Tuesday, and was ordered to wear a GPS device that also monitors alcohol use.

Prosecutors objected to the bond decision and have filed an appeal, Allen said.  MORE

Adults need to take responsibility for their own actions and a Virginia man who accepted a ride with a friend who was impaired didn’t bother with a seatbelt, was ejected when the vehicle went off the road at a high rate of speed.

Virginia State Police report that Trooper H.J. Buzzetta is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Charlotte County that took place on April 4, 2020, at 1:05 a.m. on Route 360, less than a mile west of Route 710.

A 2006 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Route 360 at a high rate of speed when it ran off the left side of the road. The driver over-corrected, which caused the car to run off the right side of the road, strike an embankment and overturn.

After further investigation, Trooper Buzzetta was able to confirm the driver of the vehicle was Tommy Marshall Williams, 38, of Danville, Va. Williams suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated and released from Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.

There were three passengers in the vehicle. One of the passengers, Sean Blake Jackson Thompson, 25, of South Hill, Va, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. Two female passengers were flown to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for treatment of serious injuries. One female has been treated and released; the other female is still being treated at VCU Medical Center.

After consultation with the Charlotte County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Trooper Buzzetta arrested Williams on Thursday (April 16, 2020) for one count of DUI-Manslaughter, 2 counts of DUI-Maiming and for one felony count of driving on a revoked license due to a prior DUI. He is being held without bond at the Charlotte County Jail.
